Real change in 2012. Out with the old, time for a new way of thinking. Happy New Year to all Occupies and all Occupiers

American [last from Colorado mountains], but expat in Europe now. I was from New York originally and also lived in L.A. and San Diego. Generally follow what is going on in all those and other US locations. We so desperately need to save our sinking ship of state! I left because it was so bad and getting worse - heading to places I feared and it did go! I do come back infrequently for short visits. Would love to see it change enough to return for the end of my life. 2012 is the year and Occupy is my hope for change. All countries could do with much change, but perhaps of the major ones ours needs it most - and fast!

Since the Citizens United decision means that corporations, though "SuperPACs" will be throwing BILLIONS of dollars at campaign ads... and we are all just way too addicted to our TVs to stop watching them altogether until after the election. I propose a way for us all to avoid watching >ANY< of the political ads out there, regardless of which SuperPAC, candidate, or political party sponsored it:

Starting now, we commit to setting our DVR to record everything we watch, and fast forward through all the commercials. There are enough commercials in an hour long program, that we could set it for the whole evening's worth of programming, start watching an hour later, and still get to bed on time! We could use that hour to do any number of things, from having a sit down dinner with family without the background noise of the TV, to using that time to research the candidates and issues ourselves without the influence of the negative ads that the SuperPACs are going to air.

We have an example in Iowa. Before the SuperPACs representing the other candidates spent about 30 million on negative ads, Newt Gingrich was ahead of the others, and now is not.(Whether this is a good or bad thing is up for debate, but the effect of the bombardment of political ads isn't) Now think about this....there are only about 100,000 folks who will be attending these caucuses.... That's about $300 per voter, and that doesn't include the millions being spent on ads by the candidates themselves or any by the Republican party in any given county that may be supporting a specific candidate.... which could be as much as another $100 per voter... This is just the beginning... and we haven't begun to address the amount that will be spent when they finally do figure out who their guy is gonna be.

Until Citizens United is overturned, or an amendment to the Constitution is enacted that repeals it; we have to find a way to let the corporations know that, unlike our politicians, our votes cannot be bought. One way to do this is to ignore the ads.

Please pass this on. Post it to your Facebook wall and ask that your friends do the same...Ask your "not on line" friends to do this too.  If each of us can get 10 others who also get 10 others to stop watching the commercials until after the election... both on tv and any they put up on the net.... they won't have an audience...

Hello from Central Texas region (rural occupiers exist are active)!  I've recently seen some very encouraging activity out of school age kids who are preparing themselves for the long-road of non-violent world-changing activism. Gives me hope and smiles.

is this your life?

seriously,

you alone feel your pain,

you alone feel your joy,

you can share those thoughts, but not the experience,

you are the beginning and end of your life here,

We have had thousands of years of a way in which, might is right, the mighty and the merciless. Where the one with the most forceful will or strongest fist or best weapon, has been allowed to rule. Simply because others have supported them, to shelter themselves…
