Welcome
This group is where we share ideas, report on existing sustainability projects and provide practical and technical solutions.
The idea is that we can create several transferable sustainability models to roll out in our towns and cities and eventually reduce our communities reliance on the monetary system.
The big plan
Lets persuade people in our communities to take part, get them to switch to credit unions, set up their own time /skills banks, teach them how to generate their own electricity, install alternatives to Gas central heating, like ground source heating. Show them how to harvest rainwater, grow their own produce, improve and maintain their own properties. All without relying on the current system. They can then turn their skills and produce into commodities to trade or share with other communities taking part.
Have a look around you, could you persuade your community? Are there any neighbourhoods that are really suffering that could do with a leg up?
Is there waste ground or abandoned buildings near where you live?
See one do one teach one
When the first projects are complete you would then have a new community who can teach the next one how to do it and so on eventually developing a network.
If this is done properly, with a lot will, determination and man power it could snowball throughout the towns and cities.
Trust
Gaining the trust of the general Public is key to our success as well as our clear intention and commitment. If we are giving communities something back that they will be able to use for years to come, this can only be a step in the right direction. It would also bring communities closer together and re instil confidence in the people within them.
If you have any experience with this type of project or you have something you could contribute, please join in.

Comment by Fred Epps on February 12, 2012 at 13:46 Hi Pear,
Let's assume for the moment that such 'magnetic generators' work. (I'm deliberately not stating my opinion about their workability). If they did, each would add to the heat burden of the Earth, since each would be converting some 'magnetic energy' into electricity, eventually to be dissipated as heat. The same flaw of course also applies to a fusion reactor. Imo, only methods that use ambient energy that will eventually downgrade to heat anyway, are environmentally sustainable, because they don't add more heat to the planet. That's why my focus has been on advanced PV and thermoelectric generators.
For a sustainable future,
Fred

Comment by rick todd on February 10, 2012 at 22:29 Hi, a growth based economy is doomed to collapse, however without exponential growth in sustainable living there is no way to get out ahead of the collapse (note: there is no 'more' sustainable, you is or you ain't). I've been working on a plan for self replicating eco-villages, useing yurts as the basic housing form. basicly the whole project is a structure for people to develope their own social/economic ideas. I will get the package in a presentable form and share. peaceloveaction
Comment by Fred Epps on February 10, 2012 at 6:35 Hi All,
I've worked for various cutting edge alt energy cos for 20 years, and now stopped that to work for OWS to develop energy for the people. I do database research and invent on my own a bit. Here to help with any projects, especially PV and thermoelectric.
Last project was a review of all US PV patents from 1945 to present (several thousand)-- many ways to improve cell performance have been forgotten over time.
First suggestion, based on a patent app from 2003, is to try putting cells in a shallow tray of ethyl alcohol-- the inventor claims 68% increase in power into a 250 ohm load, due to surface interaction with the cells, and possibly other factors.
For the 99%

I was just endiing a campaign in Michigan against our Governor, and wondered what more was out there, what more can I do to help make my country the place I used to love, when I stumbled across a thing called Livestream, where people with the same purpose (supposedly) or like mindness could come together, chat, discuss, plan, and act and I was to say the least, excited. I started chatting and made so many friends and it was then I realized, that I had been wrapped up in my own small…
