Preparedness, for those who have been planning for future emergencies/ survival BBC has just warned of possible floods, the Aquifers are absolutely full and ground is sodden, rivers are high and the rain shows no sign of slowing down all likely to contribute to floods and possibly landslides. If in an area at risk worth checking your plans so you are as prepared as possible. Waterproof your emergency packs and move stuff you value to upper rooms etc.

Here is a pattern for foot warmers. I have been experimenting with making bow strings and natural fiber for bush craft and have been thinking of crochet and macrame often. 

Foot Warmers:

Directions are for childrens slippers with any changes for womens and mens sizes in parenthesis. Use knitting worsted weight yarn and Susan Bates crothet hook size H or I

Ch(chain)

sc (single crotchet)

sl st (slip stitich)

rnd (round)

inc (increase)

st (stitich)

Gauge: 3 sc equal one inch at instep Ch2, work 6 (8,12)sc in first ch, join with sl st (toe).

Rnd 2: 2 Sc in next sc, sc in next 3 (4,6) sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3(4,6) sc. 

Next 6 (8,12) Rounds: Work in sc, making inc over inc of previous rnd- 2 inc sts made each rnd. 

Work even in sc until instep is length desired. 

Fold toe so inc points from edges or sides of foot, sc across top center of instep, ch 1, turn. 

Work even in sc rows until heel is length desired, always ch 1 to turn at end of each row. 

Sew heel seem. 

All done.

This is the cooking oil lamp I posted instructions on in the craft section. A wick holder made from two metal coils of clothes pin, a wick from a cotton mop top, and cooking oil in shot glass. Light and place in jar or other container for vigil.
